I’ve got a buddy who can’t go two days without talking about goalie Gump Worsley. My friend is always comparing his own youth hockey experience in the ‘60s to that of Gump’s years with the Habs. “I used to make glove saves just like the Gumper,” my matey constantly reminds me.
I’m glad I know someone whose childhood hero was Lorne “Gump” Worsley (1929-2007). Gump was an incredible character. His sense of humour, crewcut, and non-athletic looking — yet acrobatic — body made him fun to follow.
