Richard Deitsch is a writer/broadcaster of all things associated with sports media. I asked him via his mailbox at The Athletic if he thought the media, given the hideous content they so often produce, thinks sports fans are stupid. I found Richard’s reply helpful:

“The media isn’t a monolith, it isn’t a solo entity — and that extends to sports. As a viewer or reader, it is up to you to find the outlets that go beyond the banal or cliché. Sometimes that will be tough when it comes to broadcast because you ultimately have only one choice to watch a game. But when it comes to the written word, we live in an era where there has never been smarter sports writing, more in-depth storytelling in sports writing, and more choice, and that includes user-generated content.”

David Ward authors books like The Lost 10 Point Night and Bay of Hope.
