A special thanks to Gary Lee Wilson, host of a Facebook page titled ‘NHL 1960-69’ where fans post old photos. I needed Gary’s support last week when my Rickerby Hockey images began to appear on Gary’s page, with no credit to my site. Now I’m not naive to the ways of the web, and I like Gary’s page, but to sign on and see my work being shared with no credit to me or the photographer? Ouch!

Yet there was nobody to blame. The member who posted my pictures showed me how he found them in a place where no credit existed. So I decided the best way to deal with this predicament is to be proactive — to crosspost my picture on Gary’s page. How long this will work, I do not know. But last week’s post set an RH record for views, and I owe that occurrence to Gary and his gang.

  1. thanks aubrey, i’m sure you’re right. but i so don’t want to apply watermarks — i want to share arthur’s images in the best format that i can. i’m not sure if you view RH from a computer, a tablet, or a phone, but when the home page appears on a tablet or a phone, the photo title and copyright is permanently present on the images already, so a watermark will further congest things. yet, your suggestion is by far the best if i hope to have any kind of control. so maybe i need to stay off of other vintage hockey photo pages. truly. thanks for weighing in. the learning process goes on. 🙂

Hi David: I suggest adding a digital watermark with your desired text (ie Rickerby & your name) as there are a multitude of vintage NHL pages that your images will probably be scooped and reposted to.
